Congratulations Abraham Diaz! Abe is the first recipient of the Later Gator Award, given in memory of Gary Gould. Abe, 13, graduated from Our Lady of Refuge Grammar School, Bronx, NY, in June. His parents came to the US from Puebla, Mexico and along with his sister, they now live on Briggs Ave. and Abe will be attending All Hallows High School on 164th Street in the fall. Abe was selected because of his kind, generous nature and his love of sports and family. All the same qualities Gary exhibited throughout his life. All Hallows is not that far from Yankee Stadium which would also make Gary very happy!
Thank you to Fr. Patric Darcy, Pastor at OLR, for his valuable guidance selecting Abe for the award and agreeing to a continued partnership identifying additional students in the coming years. A VERY special thank you to Arthur Wickline. Arthur was pivotal in establishing the Later Gator Award’s partnership between Our Lady of Refuge Parish and Camp Tecumseh. He has also gone above and beyond helping Abe and his family get ready for camp from registration, ordering all the clothes and sports gear he needed and even helping him pack! Arthur also worked with the teachers at All Hallows to make sure Abe had all his required summer assignments so he could benefit from the camp’s tutoring program to set him up for a successful Freshman year.
